Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre is a sports-mecca for all things aquatic. It offers recreational swimming including diving boards, platforms, inflatables and a slippery pole plus a delightful toddler and spash area. Its education programmes suitable for pre-school through to tertiary level include: Learn To Swim, Water Safety, Kayaking, Snorkelling, Diving, Flipperball, Kiwisurf and Water Polo. Look out for the regular national and international water-sport meets open to the public.
Kilbirnie Recreation Centre
101 Kilbirnie Cres, Kilbirnie
Adjacent to WRAC, Kilbirnie Recreation Centre is a wheels mecca. It is designed to cater for wheel-based activities including skateboarding, scootering, roller and inline skating. Tinytown offers a safe, fun, interactive play area with ride-on toys and high energy activities for preschoolers. It is a 20m by 40m concrete rink with sport court flooring including netting and barriers and can be booked for sporting and family events. Wellington's Richter City Roller Derby use it for their training rink.

One of the biggest sports centres in the Greater Wellington Region. Lyall Bay Beach
The jewel in the crown! A magnet for families, dog walking, surfers and people watching. It is home to Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club which was formed in 1910 and was the first club in NZ to patrol with a reel and line, and Maranui Surf Life Saving Club, which was formed in 1911 and has been actively training surf lifeguards and providing voluntary patrols at Oriental Bay and other Wellington City Beaches. The word "Maranui" means "long sands" and was used by Maori to describe an abundance of sand and sea. Parking alongside this beautiful beach is free; with ice-cream, fish'nchups and coffees all nearby.
The Meridian Wind Sculpture Walk
The Evans Bay Marina walkway consists of 5 sculptures as part of the Meridian Energy Wind Sculpture Series. The terrain is flat however the location is one of the most exposed in Wellington (therefore expect a lot of wind!!) The sculptures are designed to respond to this environment and are best viewed on a windy day. Sculptures on this walk include:

The Weta Cave
